Train Mountain is the world’s largest model railroad … over 36 miles of 7.5 gauge track on 2205 acres of pine forest spanning 2 miles by 4 miles near Chiloquin, Oregon.
In 2009 the IRS recorded $13.8 million dollars of tax liens against the Train Mountain property based on Quentin’s tax problems. In 2010 a law suit was initiated by Fred Vertel to find a way to discharge the IRS liens. An August 1, 2012, Settlement Conference resulted in Friends of Train Mountain being appointed custodian of Train Mountain on November 1, 2012, with the authority to apply to the IRS to discharge the liens. A proposal has been made to the IRS. If the IRS accepts the proposal, Train Mountain will be owned by Railroad Institute which will use the facility to provide railroad education.
On November 1, 2012, Friends of Train Mountain became the custodians of Train Mountain, and will operate Train Mountain as custodians pending resolution of the IRS leans.
On May 8, 2013, THE IRS LIENS ON TRAIN MOUNTAIN ARE ALL COMPLETELY DISCHARGED. Train Mountain now belongs to Train Mountain Institute (TMI). (an Oregon Public Benefit Non-Profit)
Going forward, Friends of Train Mountain will continue to build new track. Train Mountain Railroad will offer members access to the track, organize meets and events, and coordinate the volunteer work projects. Klamath and Western railroad will continue to offer rides to the public. Railroad Institute will not initiate its major educational programs or accept donations until the IRS has agreed to discharge the liens and allow the property to be transferred to Railroad Institute.
