Established in 1988, the Bay Area Garden Railway Society is one of the oldest and largest regional garden railway clubs in the nation. We’ve hosted the National Garden Railway Convention four times and we will be hosting our fifth in 2016. We’ve also hosted two West Coast Regional Meets.
Our club aims to help new garden railroaders find the help they need, starting here.
We have all types of garden railroaders, from families with young children and people just starting out in the hobby, to nationally recognized hobbyists and modelers that enjoy sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm. Meetings mainly consist of monthly (April-Nov.) open house tours of backyard railroads throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We have a summer picnic in July and a February annual meeting at Hiller Museum with speakers, swap meet and more.Open house tours provide members with the opportunity to share their railroads and run trains for others who share their passion for the hobby. Visiting the open layouts is a great way to socialize with fellow members, learn about the hobby, and exchange ideas.
